Waterproofing systems range from liquid-applied membranes, which form a seamless, flexible coating over a prepared surface, to specialist sealants for cracks, joints and penetrations. Used in the right place, they are a cost-effective way to solve leaks on flat roofs, parapets, balconies, concrete roofs and sound felt or asphalt surfaces.
The key word is preparation. A coating is only as good as the surface beneath it, so we clean, repair and prime the roof first. If the roof is too far gone for coating, we will say so rather than sell you something that will not last.

How we waterproof a roof
We clean the surface, repair cracks and defects, treat any mould and prime where required. We then apply a liquid-applied membrane, such as a polyurethane or acrylic system, in layers with reinforcing fabric at joints and details. The result is a continuous, flexible waterproof layer that can be walked on for maintenance.
For small leaks we use specialist sealants and repair tapes at the defect. For balconies and terraces we can add a decorative or anti-slip finish.

Coating or full replacement?
A coating cannot fix a rotten deck or hold back water that is already trapped under the surface. If the roof is wet, saturated or failing everywhere, replacement is better value. See flat roof replacement. If it is sound, a coating is an excellent way to extend its life.

Depending on the product and the preparation, many systems have a working life of 10 to 25 years. We explain the product specification in the quote.
Can you waterproof over my old felt roof?
Often yes, if it is dry, sound and well adhered. We test before we recommend it.
Is waterproofing suitable for balconies?
Yes. Balconies and terraces can be waterproofed and finished with an anti-slip surface.
Will it stop my leak?
If the leak is coming through the roof surface or a detail we can treat, yes. We diagnose the cause first, so we do not seal over a problem that will return.
