Ridge and hip tiles are traditionally bedded in mortar. Over time the mortar cracks and crumbles and tiles loosen, letting rain and wind in and sometimes allowing tiles to fall. Valleys, where two slopes meet, carry a great volume of water and can block or split.
We re-bed and re-point ridges and hips, fit dry ridge and dry hip systems that remove the need for mortar, and renew valleys in lead, GRP or valley trays. The right fix depends on the condition of the roof and the look of the property.

Our approach
Where the ridge tiles are sound we re-bed them in fresh mortar with correct fillings and pointing. If the bedding keeps failing, a dry ridge system is more durable because it uses mechanical fixing and flexible ventilated seals, so it moves with the roof without cracking.
Valleys are renewed with lead-lined or GRP-lined valley systems or with proprietary trays, and cleaned and checked so water can flow freely. We also re-fix tiles and slates along the valley edge, which are the most commonly disturbed.

What is a dry ridge system?
It replaces mortar bedding with a mechanical fixing system and ventilated seals that hold ridge tiles securely and can flex slightly without cracking.
How long does ridge re-bedding take?
For a typical house, ridge and hip re-bedding takes a day or two, depending on length and access.
Can you fix a leaking valley?
Yes. We clear and repair the valley, and where the liner has failed we replace it with lead, GRP or a proprietary tray system.
Can missing ridge tiles be replaced individually?
Yes, if the surrounding bedding is sound. If it is widely cracked, we recommend re-bedding the whole run so the repair lasts.
